C.S. Lewis

In fourth grade I read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and I fell in love. But at the time I didn’t realize that the author had other books.

This year I had to read Till We Have Faces and The Screwtape Letters for Literature class, and I fell in love again. I definitely liked The Screwtape Letters more than Till We Have Faces because I prefer satire, but it was nice to see more fiction from Lewis.

After I finished my essay on Till We Have Faces, I decided that I just had to read The Four Loves, and let me tell you, that book did it for me. C. S. Lewis is officially on my Favorite  Authors list.

The Four Loves is an incredibly insightful and thought provoking book. I found Lewis’s differentiations among and explanations of the types of human love extremely applicable to my life. My favorite part was how Lewis drew the parallels between human love and God’s love.

I believe that a large part of faith consists of giving myself reminders. It is easy to make mistakes, to do or say something I wish I hadn’t, so reminding myself of how I want to grow as a person helps strengthen my faith and helps me beware of the errors I am prone to falling into.

For me The Four Loves was a good reminder. A reminder about how I should treat others. A reminder about how to be balanced. A reminder about how I want Love to be the main driving force of my actions.

Anyway, I recommend you read The Four Loves with all my heart (couldn’t resist the pun 🙂 ), and hopefully you will find it as stunning as I did.
